Pie on Thanksgiving Morning.
I have been eating pie in the AM since I was a kid. My mom and dad firmly believed Thanksgiving was for eating. There was no routine or regiment. You ate what you wanted. You watched football. You enjoyed having time with the people closest to you.
And with a full stomach, gratitude and naps abound, you dreamt of what I believed to be a very underrated meal in American culture.
As I sit here this morning writing this post, enjoying the slice you see before you, I am reminded that as much as Thanksgiving is the Super Bowl of the food world, the holiday is much more than food. It is about being thankful for what we have.
I am thankful for all of you that take time out of your day to read my posts and emails. It is an honor to write for you and share.
I don’t ever ask for much from you but I have a request.
Today, please text, Facetime, Zoom, and call someone you are thankful for. Check in with those close to you. Just let them know that you’re thinking of them. It’ll mean much more than you think.
Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy some morning pie, watch some games, avoid Zoom fatigue, and eat to your heart’s content.
